I’ve been married to my lovely lady wife for five years now and we still talk with fondness of our perfect wedding day that was held in the Gard department of the Languedoc region of France. To say it was the perfect weekend, yes it was a three day event, would be an understatement. Getting legally married in France if you’re not a resident is a bureaucratic ordeal. It’s far easier to do what we did, which is to have a registry office marriage in your country of origin and then have the ceremony in France.
We’re from the UK and I can tell you now that the cost of our wedding was significantly cheaper than anything close to what was available in England. More importantly the setting was incredible, the food wonderful and the weather magnificent. We took over a hotel set atop a ridge over looking a beautiful valley and the most expensive room was 120 euros per night and guests were fed at 30 euros per head. Our friends still say today that it was the most magical wedding they have been to and that we have spoiled weddings for everybody else!
