I remember as a child a neighbor of ours visiting quite often. When she stopped by our house she always had a distinct musty odor coming from her clothes that made me leery of being near her. Thinking back, I’m very sure the smell that was coming from her clothes was a sign that she had a mold problem in her home. It makes me wonder if molds were as much of a concern as they are today and what products were used for mold smell removal.
Clothing is an especially sensitive subject because they can become very fragile when exposed to chemicals. I wonder, did they add a ¾ cup of vinegar to their load of wash, did they simply brush off the fungus with a soft bristle brush, or did they soak the clothing in cold water and allow it to dry in the sun?
Whatever their mold removal methods may have been, I hope that they were at least able to find the source of the mold smell and eliminate the problem.
