Profile Of The Australian Kelpie

June 8, 2009

Australian Kelpie is a breed of dog that was developed in Australia around 1870. This dog breed was designed for herding sheep and cattle and it makes an excellent guard dog. They are also capable of working with other types of livestock like chickens and goats. Of all the dogs in Australia, this dog is the most popular.

Australian Kelpies are not suitable for apartment living. They thrive in a rural setting and love to have an active environment. They are working dogs, and if they do not have a job to do, they can become destructive.

In general, these dogs make excellent companions for farmers and people who have large tracts of land. Independent and highly intelligent, Kelpies are great medium-sized sheepdogs that are devoted to their master.
