Some Tips On How To Maintain Your Gutters and Downspouts

December 6, 2009

Properly maintained gutters and downspouts can last 2 or 3 times as long as ones that are poorly maintained.  Make sure to inspect your gutters and downspouts about twice a year.  Don’t wait until they clog up.  Typically it is best to check them in the spring and again in the fall.  Improper drainage due to improper pitch when they were installed is the biggest problem for rain gutters.  This can cause water to pool and allows debris to buildup in those areas, making them rust faster.
Make sure to completely clean your gutters and downspouts at least twice a year, more if there are lots of trees near your house.  Doing it often, while not very appealing, can keep your gutters and downspouts lasting a good, long time.
