Truck Accident: Black Box

July 4, 2009

It’s a little known fact that semi trucks have black boxes, much like those found on planes.  These boxes can provide information on a truck accident, from how the driver braked to what transpired inside the cab.  They are used to reconstruct an incident and help in a legal case, insurance claim or training with other drivers.

Some of these boxes send real time information back to a central monitoring system that updates and searches for irregular behavior on the driver’s part.  They also provide information on how long and fast a driver has gone and other relative information to help monitor the safety of others and the driver.

Black boxes are there to improve overall safety of truck drivers and others that share the road.  Most commercial truck companies take very seriously the safety of all and look to limit truck accidents.
